Female jock itch is a type of fungal infection that usually occurs in women in their groin, inner thighs, or buttocks. It usually occurs in hot and humid conditions. It mainly occurs in the groin area because fungal organisms usually grow in warm and moist areas. Jock itch in female is caused due to heavy perspiration, obesity, tight clothing, changing undergarments infrequently, sharing towel or clothing with people who are suffering from fungal infection.

  • The doctors would diagnose the condition based on the appearance and the location of the infection. It is important to consult a doctor for diagnosis because there are other skin problems that may look similar to female jock itch.
  • The doctor will ask you about the symptoms and medical history (if any), and perform certain physical exams. The doctor or the dermatologist may ask for a laboratory test in which he or she might send the sample of the infected skin to viewed under a microscope or to get cultured ir definitive diagnosis.

  • There are over-the-counter antifungal creams that can be helpful to treat mild cases of jock itch. It is important to know that creams and lotions work better than sprays as they cover more surface area. Some antifungal creams include miconazole, oxiconazole, clotrimazole etc.
  • For more severe cases of female jock itch, the doctors might recommend stronger creams and even oral medications. Complete the dose of medications as prescribed by the doctors to avoid recurrence of the rash or the infection.
  • If the rash developed due to jock itch begins to ooze, then it is probably some kind of secondary bacterial infection. In such cases, the doctors might prescribe an antibiotic to fight the bacterial infection.

  • Apple cider vinegar
    Apple cider vinegar is known for its antifungal and antibacterial properties that helps in curing or controlling various kinds of skin infections. Mix 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a cup of warm water. Wash the affected area with this solution and allow it to dry.
  • White vinegar
    White vinegar helps in dealing with jock itch as it has antifungal and antiseptic properties. Mix some white vinegar in warm water and soak it in a wash cloth. Wash the affected area with the soaked cloth gently and thoroughly.
  • Use Listerine in the same way as it is also one of the effective home remedies to control the symptoms of athlete’s foot and female jock itch.
